I figured how to make a ton of $$$$ with props
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:21:01 PM »
Ive been playing for 13 months. Always running a middle of the pack airline. Never bankrupted but never stellar.

My airline in this game has taken the spot last quarter for the highest profit margin and will do so in future quarters as well. And on top of that with REGIONAL aircraft.

1. The best plane in the game for making high margins is the EMB-120ER. Better than any other regional plane. Better than the Saab 340. Burns only 3/5 the fuel of the Saab but with 90% the revenue potential.

2. Advertising: I never over did it, but now I realize that all I need is newspapers and internet. My lowly CI of 28 doesnt stop me from having a 75-80% LF. Multiple frequencies build up my RI so RI must be more important than CI.

3. Fare discounting. This is important. For planes over 100 seats I think discounting is required. For smaller plane, just go with default pricing. I am finding my LFs start out at 35% but quickly get to 70% within 60 days. It is better to take the LF hit upfront than under price later and lose revenue potential.

Even with buying new planes and having C checks done, I had a 14% margin last quarter, which put me at 22/550. Before that I had a 38% margin, the #2 was at 30%. A  big gap.

I am making 200K to 350k per with only 5 EMB-120s. By contrast in Modern World I am barely breaking even with 737s and DH8s

YES! +10! The EMB-120 is absolutely amazing and I'm shocked that there aren't more operators of it. Best in that seat cap/range by far. Don't overlook the EMB-110 either. He is correct about cutting fares early, just take the hit and let the loads catch up to availability. Very good info, I wish I could try a regional in this game world, but I'm loathe to bankrupt at this stage :)

On bigger planes like the 737 or even the ARJ (146), I think you have to cut fares. But on small planes you dont

 Leased  214 100 USD / month  09-Jun-06  86.5 %  3  14 073 USD  177 320 USD    this  what  am  making  on Saab2000  -   36  / 10
every week have  5  of those right now this  best  one   lowest  ones still  makes profit.
Leased  214 100 USD / month  21-Jul-06  67 %  3  15 576 USD  107 345 USD  .

Am also not flying at night so i think Saab 200 aint to bad as airplane to use on short Routes till 500 nm.
And yes the all new planes.

Range from 15K  to 25k daily profit on those right now .

Well, yeah, I've been saying all that for a year now. :)

However, RI is not necessarily "more important" than CI.  It is if there's no competition on the route, that's true.  But if there' is someone else, then CI rules the roost.  CI only matters if you're going to compete with others, otherwise it's useless; which is why, more often than not, it's of no concern with airlines running small planes as they're usually on their own.  And with the pax preference for small aircraft, as long as your competition isn't also using small planes, you can rely on that boosting your demand rather than relying on CI anyway.

15k/day with the Saab 2k is pretty hot. I've heard nothing but good things about this A/C. I always knew it as a stretched/super-fast SF340, but it seems there may be a lot more too it than just that. How do A/B/C/D check costs compare to other types with that seating cap (too lazy to look right now)? On a quick glance, it seems like a handful of Saab 2000s on ~5-10 routes under 800nm with the proper demand would be quite profitable...

Well done... did it some time ago as well with EMB120. Only 1 problem.... When you hit the 50 AC mark your expanses will start to rocket on staff coasts. Don't ask me why... but it's something that might happen to your airline as well.

I remember in another thread I mentioned the EMB-120ER being the best regional aircraft in the 20-30 seat cat.

Well i just started again in Air Travel Boom...

I got 3 leased EMB-120 from the used market and ordered 5 brand-new from the factory...

I started 1 month ago, and my first aircraft is making 91 894 USD/week ....

Now i've added a new night route, lets see the effect.

I have 3 running now and a new one coming in 10 days. And the next 2 ones coming within 1 month.
