Fleet Commonality
« on: March 14, 2010, 06:44:33 PM »
Hey guys,

Another problem.

A few hours ago I had 4 boeing 737-400 and Fleet Commonality said it cost me 144 000! ( for those four)
Now: I leased another 737-400 and Fleet Commonality said it cost me 840 000 now!!
I don't have any other boeing 737.
Could someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Have you added any other types of aircraft?
Commonality costs for all fleet groups increase every time you add an additional fleet group.

Yesterday I had 4 boeings 737-400 that cost 144 000.
I don't have any other aircraft.

I've noticed this before as well, but not often enough to figure out what the 'formula' really is.

Normally each subsequent purchase of a model has a decreasing cost.  But every once in a while you'll buy one that'll give it a big jump up in costs.

It seems to function almost like Marketing costs and Routes, where everything's going fine until you open that one next route that causes your Marketing budget to jump up 25%.

It seems more like 188 000 in cost for the first ones is unbelievably low.

I did statistics on my commonality for the 737-400 when I was running a single type.

The cost per a/c only gets lower by each plane even if its by a very small margin.

I started my calculations at 27 737-4 which gave me a cost per plane of close to 55 000 in commonality cost.
Number - commonality cost in thousand per plane
27 - 55
50 - 51
98 - 49
127 - 48,50

Arriving at 127 of 737s obviously took me a while and the normal inflation that exists in the game are not weighted out. I wish we had some kind of inflation index to follow!

My numbers doesnt show any trace of what Sigma calls "big jump in costs" or the OPster says and show that the cost is decreasing quite steadily even if its in a very small pace especially after 100 planes.

First of all: nice statistics!
Second of all:Thanks for your answer.
I just leased 2 more 737-400. It cost 130 000 a plane. That's much but it's effortable.

Its fun to collect performance data
Keep adding to your fleet and use a spreadsheet of excel to put the formulas in.

How old was plane #5?  Adding a 20 year old plane can make it spike...

Its been like that for awhile.

Fleet common is tuned to provide a break for the first 3-4 aircraft of a fleet type. After that the high cost per aircraft kicks in till after 10 aircraft. Then you have a better cost per plane. Once past 30 aircraft of a fleet type, you get a lower per aircraft cost.

The first few aircraft are "cheap" because they are your starting fleet. Least that's my theory judging from the last time Sami tweak fleet common.

Of course type and age effect the per cost rate. 5 older aircraft will be more expensive to maintain over 5 newer aircraft even if the the newer aircraft are of a larger class.

Hopefully this helps.
