Well the 500 and 600 will come out in the near future, won't they?

http://www.airliners.net/aircraft-data/   GREAT website

According to the site, the plane launches in 1997.

"The A340-500 made its first flight on February 11, 2002, and was certificated on December 3 after 400 hours of flight test."

True, but didn't sami mention the dates are now completely random? It could be as late at 1998 before it's launched, theoretically. Or It could be launched really soon. He did say "if needed" though so I'm not sure it applies.

Quote from: sami
New feature: New aircraft production start & closure dates can be randomized for each game if needed. System can move the dates back or forward a max of 1,5 years for each model upon game world creation so that the dates are not known to players.

Did the A340-300 really cease production in 1995? It is no longer available in the game

Why is this such a big deal anyways?  The A340 200 was released later and is a newer aircraft with longer range and the same capacity?

Oh, and is still available.

the -200 series was a huge backfire for Airbus. The Airbus A330-200 is a better replacement, although it appears in 1997.

Okay, it may have been a blow, but comparing the two aircraft in-game, it doesn't seem to be too much of a difference.  Sure, the 200 is slightly higher per passenger but it has much higher range.

On a similar note: what is going to happen to the BAE ATP, Ilyushin 96-300, CRJ100ER, etc?

Now that they're production has ended does that mean we can never have them in this game?  :'(

With regard to the BAe ATP and the IL-96 etc., yes, the production will end and we will not be able to order any new a/c of this type. The BAe ATP will not be replaced by BAe with any other model. In real life, it was no success, as competition was quite strong from other manufacturers (DHC-8, Saab, ATR). The IL-96 was no success as well, but there was a replacement, mostly used as freighters I think. The CRJ-100 is being replaced by the 200-series, which can be seen in the game already.

In the game availability may matter more than efficiency at the early stages. As long as there are slots available, go for them. Once the money starts pouring in, it's nice to have, but you can't make investments because of very long waiting lists for the particular planes or slot bottlenecks.
