Fuel Prices Will light Air Travel Boom Ablaze
« on: July 05, 2009, 04:56:46 AM »
Read the title, and you can guess whats happening...  The price of fuel has been going a little wild lately.. there was a spike, then a drop, then a spike, an a drop, etc. Since the game follows the feul prices of real life.. what will happen when we hit 2008?

I laready know that answer. People will be pouring that oil over themselves and lighting it to save  themselves the burning pain of the oil prices ... Ive quit recently as my ailine hasnt been doing os well. good luck to all you others.  :P

woh, lukily it's an easier variation. So, will the fuel prices just reach 700 or will they go on to 1200 as people said in the forums?

to be honest, i think it's much better this way than for example in jet age 1 atm.
in ja1 fuel (and other) costs are so low now that it really doesn't matter how you run your airline at all, it's almost impossible to go bankrupt...
in atb, on the other hand, there where quite a few big airlines hitting the wall recently due to bad management.
that's way more interesting, at least for me...

Well, its in the 900's now. I've had to increase ticket prices by 3% to try and combat this.

Hows everyone else doing?

As long as I make profit - at least until 1100USD fuel price - I prefer not to rise ticket prices, just to keep my load factors high enough.

Not sure, but it seems to have levelled off at around the 1000 mark. Hopefully it wont go up anymore, I'm just about breaking even    :o

And as we sit here at $1080...  I wonder how much farther we can go.   ;)  As long as we're here, we might as well go all the way to $1200.

Bring it!

I remember that the price started to plummet in december 2008, so, if it follows accurate price history, we should be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm surviving thanks to loans and occasionally selling something.

You should be able to stock up on fuel or have contracts that go according to the price at the time of the contract signed ::).

Yes, fuel hedging is a big part of airline management strategy and should be modeled.

And if we're going to be negotiating fuel contracts, why not allow more control over other aspects like maintenance, in-flight amenities, and other cost-affecting factors?

Yeah, why not? If you want to pass the time while waiting for these features to be implemented please search the forum for numerous discussions on fuel hedging, in-flight amenities, etc.

That time above 1000 was a great time for me. I was always profitable but some of my competitor went bankrupt. It allowed me to open new routes without competition.
